Festive & Inexpensive Autumn Decor♥

Hello, friends!

I am proud to announce, that this September, I waited until the second week of the month instead of the 1st day of September to decorate for Fall.

I know, my award should be in the mail as we speak.

I have always have leaned towards spring and summer as my favorite months of the year, but this year Autumn has just been calling my name. Since this summer in Western Washington has been hot, smoggy and smokey due to forest fires… slightly chilly weather, hot cocoa and fuzzy socks are starting to sound super appealing.

As I was gearing up for my Fall decorating in August, stop judging   I noticed that both inexpensive hot spots, Dollar Tree and Big Lots, were both REALLY stepping up their game this year with the cute, seasonal decor!

important event

As I strolled through my local Dollar Tree, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of neutral decor they had developed for this year, (I’m not a warm toned, burnt orange decor girl, so this was exciting)!

The cat tail foliage especially surprised me with how good quality it was! With a few floral odds and ends, plus my dollar finds, and one up-cycled basket, I was able to create a beautiful, outdoor or indoor Autumn arrangement for around $5!

The key to making a full arrangement like this one, is to remember to fluff the flowers out as much as possible and even cut the wired stems apart. This way, you get a layered piece of all the different textures and types of flowers and foliage.

I was also completely floored by the diversity and quality of their decor pumpkins this year at Dollar Tree!

There were so many colors and options, but I chose to pick up 5 of the cream pumpkins shown in the left photo and one of the bronzey-pearl pumpkins on the right. Both are great quality for jut $1. The bronzey-pearl pumpkin is very sturdy and heavy, and the accent leaf is tin. The cream pumpkin is lighter pottery style and more fragile, but it feels and looks high end! (UPDATE: I couldn’t find the bronzey-pearl pumpkins on the Dollar Tree website, they may be sold out- Try in store)!

I really enjoy how the simple, cream pumpkins add just a touch of cozy Autumn to my wood stove while my White Barn Bath & Body Works candle fills the house with gorgeous notes of pecan and sugar! (Scent is Pumpkin Pecan Waffles).

My local Big Lots also has some really incredible, inexpensive Autumn home decor items this year! I got this darling light blue and cream table runner with scalloped edges and embroidered blue and taupe pumpkins for a whopping $12! It matches my dining room perfectly!

(Purchase Big Lots Table Runner Here)

I am really happy with all the new, simple additions to my Fall decor this year! I will also probably add a couple hundred more pieces once the Fall sales kick in and we gear up for -dare I say it- Christmas!? I just LOVE this white, blown glass pumpkin from Big Lots, but I’m going to wait until it is on sale.

Thanks for hanging out! Happy Fall Decorating!

Environmentally Friendly Outdoor Pillows DIY♥

Hello, friends!

Ah, Summer! Tis the season for air conditioning BBQ’s, picnics, beach days and  more air conditioning relaxing in the luxurious sunshine! Since I live in the Seattle area, I really do look forward all year to summer. I love making my porch extra inviting so I am more inclined to sit outside and enjoy all that vitamin D!

This pillow idea has been a constant DIY since my very first apartment, and I since I’m sure the summer decorating is starting in your own home, I thought I would share!

I recently re-sparked this idea of mine when I came across this really astounding article from National Geographic about wax worms learning to eat plastic bags! It gave me hope, inspired me, and made me proud that here in Seattle we have decided to nix harmful plastic bags altogether. I myself have been using canvas reusable bags for years, and it is a good feeling knowing those little steps towards being more environmentally conscious make a big impact on our planet in the long run. Even though I try really hard to not use plastic bags, they still somehow creep into my house and land in “that drawer.” Don’t judge me, you have “that drawer,” too!

This DIY is probably the most simple DIY you will ever do, and it is 100% no fail!

All you need are pillow covers and old plastic grocery bags!

Pillow covers are very inexpensive and come in so many cute varieties!

Check out some of these:

Home Sweet Home

Bohemian Vibes

Floral Print

All you have to do is select your pillow cover of choice and start stuffing away! I stuff the pillow until it is rigid, but still soft enough to be comfortable. For one 18×18 pillow cover, you should need about 30 to 40 plastic bags to fill it to completion. They are so inexpensive that I don’t mind if they fade a little in the sun, or get an occasional shower. The best part is that the insides are plastic, so they will never mold! They look darling on the porch and you will get the satisfaction of knowing that you saved so many plastic bags from never decomposing in the landfill!

Hooray for recycling!

Are you ready for spring?!

It is my absolute favorite season. Around this time of year I get an itch to try bunch of new things and reinvent myself. Maybe it’s because I can feel the renewing of the earth, a bunch of flowers blooming, blades of green grass peeking through sheets of ice and dew, and every creature slowly coming out of their cozy homes to say hello once more.

I also get the urge to shop.

…and I mean shop.

Alas, I do not have Blair Waldorf cash disposable income, so a few cheap thrills are perfect for me!

1.Wet and Wild Blush in Pearlescent Pink $2.99

Love, Love, Love this color!

I was able to swipe the very last one at my local drug store! Score!

This blush is very similar to NARS “Orgasm” but for 90% less.

It is very nicely milled, very smooth application, very bendable, highly pigmented, and I have had no issues with it fading or patching throughout day. It is a pinky-coral with subtle shimmer, and it gives a very nice glow to the cheeks.

Here is a swatch:

This was just a quick swipe with my finger over the blush, and as you can see, the color is very pigmented!

For only $2.99?! It’s a keeper!

2.e.l.f Zit Zapper $2.00

This product is the definition of “bang for your buck,” (two bucks to be exact!)

I think this may actually be one of my best holy grail products of all time.

I have used it without fail when one of those evil “time of the month” flair up’s erupt onto my face. The blend of  salicylic acid, tea tree oil, and witch hazel kicks out the unwanted blemishes overnight. The roller ball gives super easy, no fuss application and is perfect for travel.

A total steal for only $2!

3.NYX Lip Pencil in Rose $3.49

This was a recent purchase for me while I was on the market for a fun, springy, pink lip pencil.

It is a really complimentary shade for me, and I can definitely see this shade working for an array of skin colors, (which may make for a great universal gift option!)

I am quite fair skinned, and this is how I have been rocking this color recently:

Loving it!

This NYX pencil has given me no trouble so far. I sipped coffee while wearing it and didn’t see much transfer onto the cup. I do think this pencil formula is a smidge on the dry side (This pencil favors a matte finish), without a little chapstick underneath, so a swipe or two of some hydrating lip product will probably keep your lips less pruney more comfortable. I also like a little bit of pale pink gloss over this color for some shine. Super pretty!

4.Wet&Wild Setting Spray $4.99

It holds up your makeup even in the rain, steam, sweat, inevitable meltdowns, zombie apocalypse , and other makeup hazard zones.

I have been wanting to try this since it came out onto the market, and it did not disappoint!

I knew it was going to be good because I drove to two drug stores and both were sold out!

I really enjoyed using this setting spray on one of my most recent cleaning days when I was coming in and out of the rain, accidentally splashing myself with water, was working around steam, and was working up a sweat!  I did have a little dewiness in my T-zone, but other than that, I would say this setting spray works better than almost any high-end type I have ever used. For less than half the price of a department store brand, I would choose this every time. I have heard a couple complaints about some people saying this gave them a few zit flair up’s, but I have not had that experience. If you use it, one good spray on the face in a “Z” formation is all you need. I went a little crazy the first day and spritzed four times before coming to the realization that one spray was plenty.

5.St. Ives Body Wash Oatmeal and Shea Butter $3.97

I have always really enjoyed St. Ives body wash. In fact, I have reviewed their body wash in the past. Here is another review of their Tripple Butters Creamy Coconut formula here if you are interested.  I just have not found very many other body washes that leave me feeling as moisturized as these St. Ives formulas. I LOVE to use this oat and shea scent in the bathtub, It creates pretty good bubbles as It should since I pour half the bottle into the tub and feels wonderfully silky! I also love how it is hypoallergenic, sodium lauryl sulfate-free, and has no parabens. I have been using this since November and am on my third bottle of this particular scent. I had the option to pick up one of the others scents, but I keep being drawn to this scent and formula. Hey, if it works, it works!

So there you have it! A list of 5 truly great beauty products all under $5!

Until we meet again, stay your beautiful self!

DIY Vintage Farmhouse Wood Sign♥

2015-06-26 14.16.27

I just love free crafts, don’t you?!

This craft is so easy, it took me maybe an hour all together, (not including the billion times it took to console and feed my sweet, infant daughter!)

You Will Need:

A scrap piece of wood (the more beat up the better!)

Small Paint Brush

A Word or Phrase

Stencil (Or the computer trace method I use)

Found this scrap piece of wood behind my shed, I just loved how beat up it was! You can see in the close up, its just so naturally aged, worn and mossy.

I dusted it off with a rag until the yuckier debris fell off and I was left with a beautiful patina!

I decided I wanted to make a Vintage “farm stand” inspired sign. Since lemons are one of my favorite things in the world, I chose that word accompanied by a ten cent price. So cute!

Now, I don’t have a printer, so my way of making a stencil is a little ghetto unique.

I open a new Word.doc and choose a font. Then, I take a plain piece of paper and place it on the monitor. After that, I just lightly trace the letter with a pencil.

Hey, a girl has to do what she has to!  It works for me!

Of course, just print out the silly letters if you have a printer!

I cut out the letters and place them to my liking onto the plank.

Next, simply trace with a sharpie. This is the part that takes the longest, so turn on some music if you haven’t already and focus!

(Sorry, it’s kind of hard to see since the plank is so dark.)

After you are finished with that step, brush on some paint inside the letter. I used sort of a blotting and wiping technique to give the paint an inconsistent, worn look. Using a older, stiffer brush worked well for me! I used Valspar satin paint in Feathered Fern to fill in the words, just had it laying around!

2015-06-26 14.10.11-1-1

Pretty awesome for a free project! I am really happy with how it came out! I think it goes well next to my big, chippy, white window!

I have to hunt for more of these wood pieces, maybe there are more hiding around the shed!?

Till next time!

The Best For Less! Outstanding Beauty Products $10 and Under♥

Hello, darling!

I hope everyone is enjoying the last of the summer months, I know I’m ready for fall and to lay low for a little while! Between buying a house, having my big birthday celebration, and being the florist for three Weddings in the past month, it has been crazy! Crazy fun, but still crazy!

I thought this would be a good time to share some of my beauty favorites of this past summer, not only are these five products downright AWESOME, but they held up in the heat and kept me looking fresh and put together.

Another bonus, they are all under $10!

The list begins!

1. Earth Therapeutics Loofah Exfoliating Scrub Oatmeal & Honey

Fred Myers $7.99

I love this product so much! I picked it up at first because it smells divine. I love anything honey scented so it went into the shopping basket without any hesitation whatsoever. Once in use, I noticed how beautifully it worked and how the smell intensifies when bathing. A rich soothing oatmeal honey goodness. YUM!  I was particularly impressed with how smooth and silky my skin felt after the scrub down. This scrub is less abrasive then my homemade sugar scrubs yet worked just as well! I was very impressed with how it made my self tanner work even better than ever. My color was even, smooth and after the first application it appeared very deep and golden brown. Normally it takes me two or three applications to get the desired color, but this product made it happen in the first layer! The pumice and loofah are excellent exfoliants while the honey, aloe, jojoba and oat extract are soothing and hydrating. Definitely my new favorite find! Pick this one up as soon as you can!

(If you don’t have a Fred Myers where you reside, you can find it here on Amazon)

2. Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Replenishing Hair Milk

Walgreens $5.29

Rejoice all you broken haired beauties! Palmers is here!

Ladies, this hair product is a god send for broken ends. I swear to you my hair was transformed after one week of using this product. I especially recommend it to the curly hair types for extra hydration. My hair is wavy and on the dryer side, so I use about a nickle size from my ear lobes down to my split ends. If you have fine hair, concentrate this only on the last inch of your hair to nourish the ends since the product is on the heavier side. Another great option would be to use a tablespoon or so in a travel spray bottle and mix it with water. I tried this and it worked well, but I wanted more of the concentrated product.  Works wonders as a leave in conditioner!

3. Wet and Wild Eyeshadow Glitter Singles (Color: Brass)

Walgreens $0.99

It’s glitter, it’s cheap, it’s beautiful, oh, did I mention it’s GLITTER?!

Wet and Wild is one sneaky brand! I never know what they will come out with next!

This is a gel eyeshadow. It has a beautiful pigment and staying power. I personally use it on top of my black liquid eyeliner to give it an extra pop. Apply it with an eyeliner or angle brush to give your eyes a subtle sparkle. There were many other colors such as silver, pink and purple! Since gold is my favorite color, I jumped on it!

Here is a close up and sample of the look I often use with it over the eyeliner:

4. Revlon Lip Butter (Color: Strawberry Shortcake)

$5.99 Target

The word “butter” is perfect for this product because it is so beyond smooth and creamy on the lips. I was very happily surprised when I tried this for the first time. It was very pleasant on the lips, not fussy, sticky, or tight. Some lipsticks have that “tight,” feeling that I hate, do you know what I mean? The feeling that when you smile it feels like you cant smile all the way because your lips feel stiff?

Anyone? (Crickets heard in the distance)…

Okay, well, I hate that feeling and this product did nothing of the sort.  Actually, it felt like a very pigmented, luxury chapstick, and I mean that as a high compliment! The color is a beautiful, natural pink tone with just enough pigment. It is perfect for any occasion, it will be a purse staple forever!

Now finally, the creme de la creme.

Drum roll please:

5. Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation (Color: Light Ivory)

$5.49 Target

How does one describe the most wonderful beauty product to ever be created?

For me, the second I used this product I was in awe. It was the equivalent of a 13 year old girl getting to meet One Direction.

I couldn’t stop hyperventilating and crying tears of joy.

Also, I wanted to kiss it a little.

It is like an airbrush finish from Jesus. It makes your skin more luminous than the pearly gates.

Since I am a licensed esthetician, I have tried millions a lot of products, and this surpassed all expectations.

My skin was smooth, radiant, fresh and it could breathe. This is a weightless, medium coverage foundation that is absolutely stunning on the skin.

(I am wearing it in the same picture as the eyeliner sample above).

There are 6 tones to choose from, mixing them to get the best skin tone for you would be very easy, and at $5.49, why not buy two?!

I hope you pick up one hundred of these on your next shopping trip!  You will not regret it!

See you next time doll face.
