Festive & Inexpensive Autumn Decor♥

DISPLAYPUMPKIN

Hello, friends!

I am proud to announce, that this September, I waited until the second week of the month instead of the 1st day of September to decorate for Fall.

I know, my award should be in the mail as we speak.

award

I have always have leaned towards spring and summer as my favorite months of the year, but this year Autumn has just been calling my name. Since this summer in Western Washington has been hot, smoggy and smokey due to forest fires… slightly chilly weather, hot cocoa and fuzzy socks are starting to sound super appealing.

As I was gearing up for my Fall decorating in August, stop judging   I noticed that both inexpensive hot spots, Dollar Tree and Big Lots, were both REALLY stepping up their game this year with the cute, seasonal decor!

important event

As I strolled through my local Dollar Tree, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of neutral decor they had developed for this year, (I’m not a warm toned, burnt orange decor girl, so this was exciting)!

The cat tail foliage especially surprised me with how good quality it was! With a few floral odds and ends, plus my dollar finds, and one up-cycled basket, I was able to create a beautiful, outdoor or indoor Autumn arrangement for around $5!

20170911_103549

The key to making a full arrangement like this one, is to remember to fluff the flowers out as much as possible and even cut the wired stems apart. This way, you get a layered piece of all the different textures and types of flowers and foliage.

I was also completely floored by the diversity and quality of their decor pumpkins this year at Dollar Tree!

There were so many colors and options, but I chose to pick up 5 of the cream pumpkins shown in the left photo and one of the bronzey-pearl pumpkins on the right. Both are great quality for jut $1. The bronzey-pearl pumpkin is very sturdy and heavy, and the accent leaf is tin. The cream pumpkin is lighter pottery style and more fragile, but it feels and looks high end! (UPDATE: I couldn’t find the bronzey-pearl pumpkins on the Dollar Tree website, they may be sold out- Try in store)!

20170911_104054

I really enjoy how the simple, cream pumpkins add just a touch of cozy Autumn to my wood stove while my White Barn Bath & Body Works candle fills the house with gorgeous notes of pecan and sugar! (Scent is Pumpkin Pecan Waffles).

My local Big Lots also has some really incredible, inexpensive Autumn home decor items this year! I got this darling light blue and cream table runner with scalloped edges and embroidered blue and taupe pumpkins for a whopping $12! It matches my dining room perfectly!

(Purchase Big Lots Table Runner Here)

I am really happy with all the new, simple additions to my Fall decor this year! I will also probably add a couple hundred more pieces once the Fall sales kick in and we gear up for -dare I say it- Christmas!? I just LOVE this white, blown glass pumpkin from Big Lots, but I’m going to wait until it is on sale.

Environmentally Friendly Outdoor Pillows DIY♥

20170613_122706

Hello, friends!

cher

Ah, Summer! Tis the season for air conditioning BBQ’s, picnics, beach days and  more air conditioning relaxing in the luxurious sunshine! Since I live in the Seattle area, I really do look forward all year to summer. I love making my porch extra inviting so I am more inclined to sit outside and enjoy all that vitamin D!

This pillow idea has been a constant DIY since my very first apartment, and I since I’m sure the summer decorating is starting in your own home, I thought I would share!

I recently re-sparked this idea of mine when I came across this really astounding article from National Geographic about wax worms learning to eat plastic bags! It gave me hope, inspired me, and made me proud that here in Seattle we have decided to nix harmful plastic bags altogether. I myself have been using canvas reusable bags for years, and it is a good feeling knowing those little steps towards being more environmentally conscious make a big impact on our planet in the long run. Even though I try really hard to not use plastic bags, they still somehow creep into my house and land in “that drawer.” Don’t judge me, you have “that drawer,” too!

wendyteagossip

This DIY is probably the most simple DIY you will ever do, and it is 100% no fail!

All you need are pillow covers and old plastic grocery bags!

Pillow covers are very inexpensive and come in so many cute varieties!

Check out some of these:

Home Sweet Home

Bohemian Vibes

Floral Print

All you have to do is select your pillow cover of choice and start stuffing away! I stuff the pillow until it is rigid, but still soft enough to be comfortable. For one 18×18 pillow cover, you should need about 30 to 40 plastic bags to fill it to completion. They are so inexpensive that I don’t mind if they fade a little in the sun, or get an occasional shower. The best part is that the insides are plastic, so they will never mold! They look darling on the porch and you will get the satisfaction of knowing that you saved so many plastic bags from never decomposing in the landfill!

Hooray for recycling!

What I Hunt For At Goodwill + Haul♥

Happy Almost New Year!

marilyn-monroe-champagne

I trust Everyone had a joyous holiday full of sugar family and cocktails friends!

Even though Christmas just ended literally minuets ago, I decided I needed to hunt for more junk, (hello American consumerism!)

All joking aside, I really had not gone thrifting in a while, (a month is a while). I had a few DIY’s mulling around in my head, and I was getting the itch to act on my impulses!

I sometimes get asked by my friends who are not of the hoarding thrifting breed:

“What do you look for? How do you find cool stuff?”

It does take a a little skill and loads of patience to find things while thrifting. You must bring your creative A game and see potential in ugly things that may need some love. However, you must also be able to distinguish what is not for you and what you must stash in your cart immediately. I say go in with an open mind, creativity, and a lot of hand sanitizer, (yeah, things can get messy/dusty).

The top 3 things I personally hunt for when I thrift are:

1.Old Books

I have a serious love for old, worn books. I use them in my home to add depth and character to spaces.  The pictures above are from my home decor. I collected all of these books from thrifting and various garage sales. I have a lot of weathered books, but the massive, Leonardo Davinci one is my favorite!

2.Milk Glass (Hobnail)

These pictures were taken from inside my butter yellow kitchen. I have collected all this milk glass from Goodwill and garage sales! I think my most expensive piece was $5.

I am  partial to the hobnail design, but there are a lot of beautiful, milky stemware and vases to be explored at the local Goodwill. Look at these!

20161228_115559

3.Antique or Weathered Frames

20161228_115902

I just HAD to have this one! Isn’t it beautiful!? Most of the frames inside my home are thrifted, they are mostly weathered wood or faux- antique like this one, it fits perfectly!

Awesome Stuff!

I thought those pink and white floral teacups were just darling, but they were on the “pricey” side at 3.99 each, so I let them go. I was trying to stick to a $25 budget today.

I was dying over that vintage cookbook, look at that detail! I will never find that again, I needed it. For $1.99, it was a huge score!

20161228_115922

Dahlia’s eyes plead,”Mom, can we go now?”

Getting home with all my treasures is so fun, I love un-bagging them and rediscovering my treasures all over again!

I think my favorite find was this vintage inspired, botanical stationary set. It is in pristine condition and so, so pretty!

For $3.99, I would have fought someone for it!

wxa7ibl

anigif_enhanced-buzz-24139-1403041287-39

I’m a sucker for a pretty .99 scarf!

“Quick, Dahlia! Blink twice if mommy needs this scarf!”

We needed it. No arguments.

I would have taken a better photo of the cream, woven throw rug, but it is not very photogenic and looks pretty “blah” on camera. However, it has a nice home in my laundry room now and for $2.99 I was not about to pass it up! It was in great condition except for a small brown patch which I spot treated and now it’s good as new!

Get ready to see a fun, spring, DIY project I am doing with my Sunflower Basket Tin! I am working on it, and will post the project soon!

Are you inspired to hit up your local thrift store now?

Happy Treasure Hunting!

♥Quick, Simple & Easy Beauty Tips For New Moms

beautytipsmoms

Hello and welcome!

I was inspired to write this post today, because a few wonderful ladies in my life have approached me recently asking me how I find the time to look pulled together and fresh with a one-and-a-half year old daughter.

tumblr_mzk8las8fs1s8ghqso1_r2_500

*Insert loop track of me laughing for 8 years here*

No, I did NOT, and do not wake up looking great each morning. However, I do have a strict beauty routine I follow every night to ensure that I feel taken care of and thus, can wake up in the morning feeling fresh and confident. If you are new to this page, I should also let you know that I am a licensed Esthetician, so beauty, makeup and skin are kind of my utter obsession jam.

amen

I know that all of us new moms, and women in general, are on totally different wave lengths and skill sets when it comes to beauty and makeup. With that being said, for this post, I will be focusing on very simple beauty steps you can do to ensure a great complexion and confidence boost!

All of these beauty tips and tricks are ways I personally like to perk myself up on a day to day basis, I hope it inspires you to be your best self, however that looks to you!

1. Eye Cream For Late Nights

When my daughter was born I was able to get her on a sleep schedule fairly quickly. With that being said, there were still hundreds of bloody awful a few challenging nights where I would be up every two hours to nurse and sooth her back to sleep. I decided to keep a tube of eye cream next to her crib, as well as my bedside to remind me to layer on a little eye cream every time I had to get up and nurse or sooth her. I swear by this trick, because even though I felt like death  exhausted the next morning, I looked rested.

My favorite eye creams are:

(Luxury) Dermalogica Age Reversal Eye Complex

(Budget Friendly) Burts Bees Radiance Eye Cream

Both eye creams are excellent for battling fine lines around the delicate eye area. Dermalogica uses incredible ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid that helps the skin retain water, apricot seed oil, cucumber, and oat to hydrate and sooth, as well as rice grain extract to brighten the eye area.

Burt’s Bees eye cream also includes awesome, high preforming ingredients such as royal jelly, which is packed full of nutrients for the skin to help it appear youthful, sunflower and olive oils to smooth and pamper the skin, lemon peel extract to brighten the eye area, and aloe to hydrate.

If you are on a strict budget, a little dab of coconut oil will also help the delicate eye area look rested and hydrated.

2. Face Masks For Short Household Tasks

I love, love, love face masks.

If you want your skin to do a 180, or have your makeup go on smoother and more evenly, a face mask is where it is at!

As a new-ish mom, I like to put on a face mask when I am doing short tasks around the house such as dishes (yay, steam!), vacuuming or folding a batch of laundry.  Since these tasks take me about 20 min to finish, it is a perfect opportunity to pull double duty. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of face mask recipes on Pinterest, in books, and DIY blogs all over the place. I am after results, so no matter what type of mask you choose, just go after what is natural, and for all skin types. (When in doubt, try to look for something organic!)

My favorite “ready to use” Masks are:

(Super Budget Friendly) Petal Fresh Aloe and Pomegranate Clay Facial Masque

(Average Price) Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque

The Petal Fresh Clay masque is excellent for drawing out impurities and makes the skin so, so soft after use. The mask includes nourishing white clay, pomegranate extract to help your skin fight free radicals and environmental stresses, and Glycolic Acid to help gently exfoliate the skin.

The Dermalogica Masque is a very thick, rich mask that boosts collagen with its complex Peptide ingredients. It also includes ingredients like licorice to brighten the skin, and oat to nourish.

*If you have a few odds and ends to throw together in the kitchen, you can create some awesome masks that are very effective.*

In a small bowl, mix one tablespoon of plain Greek yogurt, with one teaspoon of honey, and a half a teaspoon of lemon juice or orange juice.

Wet face with warm water, and pat with a towel until just slightly damp. With hands or a clean masque brush, spread mixture all over the face and neck.

Leave on for 15 minuets! Then rince with warm water and follow up with a rich moisturizer like ALBA Botanica Even Night Cream .

Effects: The lactic acid in the yogurt will eat away dead skin and brighten the new skin, the honey will hydrate and eliminate bacteria, and the citrus juice will brighten and cleanse.

3. Hand Cream

Just like the eye cream, I like to use hand cream before bed and really pile it on.

I adore the Trader Joe’s Ultra Hydrating Hand Cream. Shea butter, hemp oil, and coconut oil are heavy hitters of hydration making hands feel smooth and beautiful.

My Trader Joe’s sells it for 4.99 for 3oz.

As nice as it is to use before bed, I also like to use this under my rubber gloves when gardening, doing dishes, cleaning the bath tub, etc. Again, double duty!

Another hand cream that works wonderfully, with ingredients like avocado and macadamia oils, is Lollia Hand Cream.

This product is pricier than the good ‘ol Trader Joe’s, but it is wonderful.

If your hands are in particularly rough shape, lather on hand cream and put on a pair of cotton gloves and leave on while you sleep. You will wake up amazed!

4. Quick Dry Nail Polish

If you have .0 time to sit down and go and get/give yourself a true manicure, but still want your fingers to look beautiful, I recommend Sally Hanssen Quick Dry Nail Polish.

I love the color selection they offer, and during the unpredictable amount time I have when the baby is down for a nap, I know I will have at least 2 minuets.

I also recommend using a good preforming Top Coat to give your polish extra glossy-ness and chip protection. OPI Top Coat is one of my favorites!

5. Fill in Your Eyebrows

If full face makeup is simply not happening today, take a minute to groom and lightly fill in your eyebrows. Eyebrows help frame your face and add definition!

I really like Wet & Wild Brow Pencil in Taupe Of The Morning. They have a good number of shades, I prefer a Taupe shade since I am very blonde.

6. BB Cream

Just like filling in your brows, if you have just a little time you can also even out your skin tone and pop on a little BB Cream. I love this Super BB by Physicians Formula.

A BB Cream includes medium coverage foundation and a light moisturizer with an SPF. This BB cream is also hypoallergenic, so it will not irritate your skin.

If you have 5 minuets, (which, you should make time for yourself to at least have 5 minuets), Start by prepping the skin with a moisturizer with SPF, I like Burt’s Bees Radiance Day Cream.

Follow with the BB Cream, use fingers to blend or favorite brush or beauty blender.

Follow with a loose or pressed powder to set foundation, I like Rimmel Stay Matte

Pop on a little blush for your pretty cheeks Milani Dolce Pink Baked Blush

Fill in brows

Crimp Lashes

Swipe on mascara Covergirl Lash Blast Very Black

…and end with a swipe of oh-so-flattering peachy pink  e.l.f lip gloss!

Simple, very quick and beautiful!

7. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD Remember To Drink Water

I know, I know, I know.

This is not unknown news and It’s like a broken record.

Honestly, I have to remind myself of this daily.

It is too often that 5:00pm rolls around and I realize I have had only coffee all day.

I remind myself to drink water by putting alarms on my phone because I am an adult. Yep. It’s that bad.

Jazz up your boring as hell water by adding a sprig of mint and a lemon slice, or a slice of orange. It helps cut the monotony, trust me.

I hope I have given you a new nugget of beauty wisdom!

Remember, you are awesome, you are beautiful, and you’re doing the best you can as a new mom.

Take time for you, there is no shame in taking care of yourself so you can take better care of others!

Are you ready for spring?!

3b9edd1e6cd32d9a88418a683e13a62e

It is my absolute favorite season. Around this time of year I get an itch to try bunch of new things and reinvent myself. Maybe it’s because I can feel the renewing of the earth, a bunch of flowers blooming, blades of green grass peeking through sheets of ice and dew, and every creature slowly coming out of their cozy homes to say hello once more.

I also get the urge to shop.

…and I mean shop.

promdress7

Alas, I do not have Blair Waldorf cash disposable income, so a few cheap thrills are perfect for me!

1.Wet and Wild Blush in Pearlescent Pink $2.99

20160309_184030

Love, Love, Love this color!

I was able to swipe the very last one at my local drug store! Score!

This blush is very similar to NARS “Orgasm” but for 90% less.

It is very nicely milled, very smooth application, very bendable, highly pigmented, and I have had no issues with it fading or patching throughout day. It is a pinky-coral with subtle shimmer, and it gives a very nice glow to the cheeks.

Here is a swatch:

20160309_184151

This was just a quick swipe with my finger over the blush, and as you can see, the color is very pigmented!

For only $2.99?! It’s a keeper!

2.e.l.f Zit Zapper $2.00

ELF-07801-1

This product is the definition of “bang for your buck,” (two bucks to be exact!)

I think this may actually be one of my best holy grail products of all time.

I have used it without fail when one of those evil “time of the month” flair up’s erupt onto my face. The blend of  salicylic acid, tea tree oil, and witch hazel kicks out the unwanted blemishes overnight. The roller ball gives super easy, no fuss application and is perfect for travel.

A total steal for only $2!

3.NYX Lip Pencil in Rose $3.49

sleekhair_2269_2948776863

This was a recent purchase for me while I was on the market for a fun, springy, pink lip pencil.

It is a really complimentary shade for me, and I can definitely see this shade working for an array of skin colors, (which may make for a great universal gift option!)

I am quite fair skinned, and this is how I have been rocking this color recently:

2016-03-10 17.09.14

Loving it!

This NYX pencil has given me no trouble so far. I sipped coffee while wearing it and didn’t see much transfer onto the cup. I do think this pencil formula is a smidge on the dry side (This pencil favors a matte finish), without a little chapstick underneath, so a swipe or two of some hydrating lip product will probably keep your lips less pruney more comfortable. I also like a little bit of pale pink gloss over this color for some shine. Super pretty!

4.Wet&Wild Setting Spray $4.99

k2-_685f0ba9-529c-44f6-b5c9-6411eafe1f47.v1

It holds up your makeup even in the rain, steam, sweat, inevitable meltdowns, zombie apocalypse , and other makeup hazard zones.

I have been wanting to try this since it came out onto the market, and it did not disappoint!

I knew it was going to be good because I drove to two drug stores and both were sold out!

13504096

I really enjoyed using this setting spray on one of my most recent cleaning days when I was coming in and out of the rain, accidentally splashing myself with water, was working around steam, and was working up a sweat!  I did have a little dewiness in my T-zone, but other than that, I would say this setting spray works better than almost any high-end type I have ever used. For less than half the price of a department store brand, I would choose this every time. I have heard a couple complaints about some people saying this gave them a few zit flair up’s, but I have not had that experience. If you use it, one good spray on the face in a “Z” formation is all you need. I went a little crazy the first day and spritzed four times before coming to the realization that one spray was plenty.

5.St. Ives Body Wash Oatmeal and Shea Butter $3.97

300

I have always really enjoyed St. Ives body wash. In fact, I have reviewed their body wash in the past. Here is another review of their Tripple Butters Creamy Coconut formula here if you are interested.  I just have not found very many other body washes that leave me feeling as moisturized as these St. Ives formulas. I LOVE to use this oat and shea scent in the bathtub, It creates pretty good bubbles as It should since I pour half the bottle into the tub and feels wonderfully silky! I also love how it is hypoallergenic, sodium lauryl sulfate-free, and has no parabens. I have been using this since November and am on my third bottle of this particular scent. I had the option to pick up one of the others scents, but I keep being drawn to this scent and formula. Hey, if it works, it works!

So there you have it! A list of 5 truly great beauty products all under $5!

My Purse Essentials♥

2015-05-23 16.54.12

Hey Y’all!

I’m just sittin’ pretty, waiting for my daughter to come out into the world on June 1st!

I have had a glorious first week off of work, and while preparing for the baby to arrive, I have been assembling my hospital bag(s) for the fast approaching day! I have also been cleaning out my purse to make room for things other than coupons   the beauty items I really NEED to carry around with me, not only for the hospital, but for day to day. Surprisingly, this was actually pretty hard for me, it really forced me to pick and choose what was most important. During this time I also realized HOW MUCH CRAP I HAVE how many items are really weighing me down and are not necessary to lug around every day.

Prime example: The six lip glosses I found in just ONE pocket.

cryinggif

I have a problem.

Other than the obvious contenders, (keys, wallet, and cell phone) Here are a few beauty items I have used in my purse as staples over and over again!

2015-05-23 16.54.12 (1)

(The purse is the Betsey Johnson Bow-Nanza Quilted Heart Handbag in Blush! So girly and FABULOUS!)

1. CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara

Unless you live under a rock, you have heard the hype over this blessing that CoverGirl bestowed onto us mere peasants. I never go anywhere without this magical tube of lash perfection. It can be built up for a very dramatic look, or just one swipe for beautiful, defined lashes. The best of the best!

Make it yours!

2. Physicians Formula Pressed Powder (In Buff-Beige)

Very natural looking, shine free, perfect medium coverage for general touch up’s throughout the day, and SPF 16?!

What is not to love?

Make it yours!

3. Burt’s Bees Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil

I am a huge fan of anything Burt’s Bees, and I have used stick after stick of this wonderful product since it’s release!

This lip balm gives a universally flattering subtle raspberry-pink tint to bare lips. It’s nourishing ingredients, (coconut oil, sunflower oil, and pomegranate oil, to name a few) ensure that your lips will be soft and supple all day.

Make it yours!

4. MAC Lipstick in Frost

I am obsessed with this color. It is the perfect pink for any look because it never looks overdone. It has a subtle shimmer to make it a touch glamorous without being over the top. I wear it almost everyday at one point or another!

2015-05-23 18.24.41

(I had a hard time finding this online…uh oh! I got mine at Nordstrom)

5. Bath and Body Works Pocket-Bac in Meyer Lemon

Obviously, having a germ fighter is essential! From public restrooms to shopping cart handles, it’s a must have! These come in every scent under the sun, I am partial to Lemon scents!

Make it yours!

6. Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Body Spray

I love this floral scent from Victoria’s Secret!

Does that make me super basic?

Whatever.

I actually use this more as a “room spray” than a body spray most of the time.

Just think, mall/grocery store restroom, and you’ll understand where I am going with that…body spray is a good thing to have just in case you should run into any unpleasant odors.

Make it yours!

7. Joico K-PAK Protect and Shine Hair Serum

Fantastic frizz buster and shine booster thanks to the macadamia and evening primrose oils that are used in this lifesaver of a product! I have had this bottle for TWO YEARS and I still have more than a fourth of the bottle left. A little goes a very long way.

Make it yours!

8. Dove Clear Tone Deodorant

One of the best deodorants I have ever used! I’m not sure what makes this particular Dove deodorant so much different from the others, all I know is that it WORKS! I never have to worry about having damp underarms with this product. It also has a very subtle scent that isn’t going to clash with perfume or scented body lotion.

Make it yours!

There you have it! I would love to know if you have a purse staple you would be lost without!

Wish me luck in the next few days! Praying for a safe and quick delivery for this mama and her new, sweet baby girl!

Fabulous & Budget Friendly Home Decor Stores♥

ebay

This is an exciting day!

I just found out that H&M has an AMAZING collection of home decor goods for close to nothing! Why have I not known about this!?
I was so excited about this discovery, that I wanted to share with you some more awesome, inexpensive home decor stores that I frequent:
1. H&M
H&MLike I said, I just found out about their home decor products, but I am very excited about the products that I have seen so far!
I have about fifty ten items in my shopping bag already!  This hand towel is only $4.95! Some of the throw blankets get a little pricey at $79.95, but that was the only item I saw that was truly expensive. I was shopping for kitchen items and the most expensive item I saw in that category was $14.95, not too shabby! Check it out!

2.Ebay Stores Instyleestore & Litvogues
EBAYIf I don’t buy something at Goodwill, I buy it from Ebay. I am on ebay 24/7.
This Ebay store is called instyleestore and they have GORGEOUS linen and cotton blend pillow covers for under $10.00. Does this excite anyone else?!
I have bought one pillow cover from them. The store is in China, so I am still waiting for my package (two whole days), but I should be getting it any day! All the reviews are between four to five stars, so I have high expectations!  I will let you know how it all works out!

6/29/14*UPDATE* The pillows are gorgeous and GREAT quality. I will be buying more!
ebay2Litvogues is another overseas Ebay store that has great reviews and really pretty pillow covers!
I have not purchased from them yet, but my Ebay watch list is overflowing with their products. They have great reviews and a very reasonable shipping time estimate!

This pillow is $5.99 with FREE shipping!

3. Flea Market Chics
fleamarketchicsI live in Washington, so this may be an unfair advantage, but I know that this boutique sell items over the phone and through Paypal, so shop away!
This store carries a variety of vintage finds and handmade goods, (they sell handmade soap that is WONDERFUL)! Everything is priced to sell and the people who work there are incredibly nice! Win, Win!
I bought a beautiful, white, super old, large, shabby window for $20.00 from this store and it has been the star of my bedroom since! (I will take a photo of it when we move into the new house!)

4. World Market
485327_GONE_TO_THE_BEACH_WOODEN_SIGN_I’m sorry if I sound like a broken record if this is the 1,000th time I have boasted about World Market, but my love for them knows no bounds!
I never leave this store empty handed...ever.zoe

It is a dangerous, dangerous place. I love their sales, and if you become a World Market Explorer you get 20% off coupons all the time in your email!
My favorite items to buy are clocks and wall decor items. This “Gone to the Beach” sign is on sale for $9.74!
